Amber is a fascinating stone - probably no one who has visited the Amber Museum in Kraków has the slightest doubt about that. Here, the history of the Baltic gold mingles with the present - in a way that leaves no one indifferent.

Like an Amber Chamber, the modern interior conceals the captivating stories associated with this stone. How did the resin of coniferous trees solidify, trapping insects and plants in eternity? What properties of amber caused people to consider (and still consider) it a magic stone? Can amber really be used to cure various diseases? How is it fished? Why are artists so fond of it and what are the results of their admiration? Baltic amber represents over 40 million years of history inextricably linked to man - his beliefs, medicine, culture, art...

The exhibition „Amber - beauty and history” prepared by the Museum of the Earth of the Polish Academy of Sciences (Warsaw Amber Collection) and enriched with the works of contemporary Polish artists, including. Paulina Binek, Janusz Wosik, Mariusz Drapikowski, Jack Baron, Dariusz Zarański or Tomasz Ogrodowski, who have made their mark in the history of amber art with their unique style.

The exhibition is made up of a total of just under 400 exhibits - mainly natural specimens and finished products - which have the primary goal of popularising knowledge of amber and promoting Polish culture among tourists visiting Krakow. Amber is an ideal tool for this purpose, as it is strongly associated with Poland - mainly thanks to the Amber Route that runs through the present-day territory of our country and the extraordinary stories associated with it. The charm of the gold of the Baltic Sea attracts not only the residents of Krakow to the Amber Museum, but is one of the most important tourist attractions for visitors mainly from China, Japan, Arab and European countries and the USA.

The Amber Museum in Kraków was established out of a passion for amber and this passion is still the driving force behind its continuous development: expanding the collection, which presents this stone and products inspired by it in an attractive and multidimensional way, and making it even more interesting for the public. That is why it is worth returning there again and again.
