Presentations 2012 – qualified list

„A good standard, lots of interesting entries, and intriguing references to current market trends” – this is how Magdalena Kwiatkiewicz briefly summarised this year's Presentations competition, for which 63 entries were submitted. The jury qualified as many as 54 entries – we now know who their authors are!

This year's edition – for the second time in the competition's history – had a theme stated as „The Ring”. As intended, the theme made the jury's deliberations easier, as the criteria were clearer. This does not mean, however, that its members agreed on the prizes and distinctions: „The first prize was awarded in a ‘bloodless’ manner, but with the others, we were already fighting,” said Jacek Byczewski. The jurors unanimously agreed that the standard of work this year was surprisingly high, and they all regretted not having more statutory prizes and distinctions available, as significantly more works deserved them. This is why two additional distinctions were quickly created – YES and the Centre of Artistic Exhibitions in Legnica.

„We have the full spectrum of what's currently happening in the market here – and in my opinion, this is the strength of both the works and the competition. The award-winning and distinguished works are very diverse – the jury wanted to showcase various examples reflecting market trends. However, the main evaluation criterion remained the creativity of their authors,” summarised Prof. Andrzej Boss. In addition to him, the jury also included: Katarzyna Rzehak – Institute of Industrial Design (chairwoman); Magdalena Kwiatkiewicz – co-owner of YES company and owner of YES Gallery; Jacek Byczewski – jewellery designer, visual artist; Zbigniew Kraska – director of the Art Gallery in Legnica, and Joanna Bijok – representative of the International Trade Centre.

The Presentations Competition is organised by the Association of Goldsmiths' Art Creators and the International Fair Centre. By design, it is a tool for promoting the achievements and creative potential of visual artists and jewellery designers. This year, significant changes were made to the regulations, from which the requirement to use goldsmithing techniques was removed and a theme was introduced, which positively influenced the standard of the competition entries. The official announcement of the results and award ceremony will take place during the Gold Silver Time fair in Warsaw (5-7 October 2012).
