Under this slogan, the Amber Fishing World Championships JANTAR 2012 have begun. Every participant has a chance to win the title of World Champion and find the true treasure of the Baltic Sea – amber. The finals are this coming weekend on the beach in Jantar.

As is traditional, the Amber Fishing World Championships final will be held on the beach in Jantar on 14 and 15 July – here, the winners of the elimination rounds, which in this edition took place in Pruszcz Gdański, Yantarny (Russia), Hel, Gdynia and Krynica Morska (eliminations in Sztutowo are still to come on 13 July), will compete for the title of Amber Fishing World Champion. „The best competitors taking part in the Championships can catch over 150 grams of ‘Baltic gold’ from the shore in just 10 minutes," says Ryszard Goliszek, the event organiser.

The fishermen's competition will be accompanied by numerous attractions, including a Żuławy fair, amber processing demonstrations by Eryk Popkiewicz and local amber craftsmen's products, stage performances by well-known radio and television bands, an international popular science conference on the history of amber, special exhibitions prepared by the Castle Museum in Malbork, and the unveiling of an amber craftsman's statue funded by the „Polish Amber Route” Association. Elżbieta Sontag from the Museum of Inclusions in Amber will be responsible for children's amber education, leading games, fun activities, and contests under the theme „The World Enchanted in Amber”. The final event will be hosted by the well-known television sports presenter Rafał Patyra.

A tradition of the Championships is the VIP round, which features special guests: actors Andrzej Zaorski, Marcin Troński, Wojciech Wysocki, Marek Siudym and Grzegorz Wons, and director Janusz Zaorski, who will compete for The Director of the First Programme of Polish Radio Cup.

The World Amber Fishing Championships are the largest outdoor promotional event in the Stegna commune and one of the biggest of its kind in Poland, combining cultural and promotional aspects of amber. The championships are not only good fun, active recreation and exciting competition, but also education. Participants and the cheering public will learn the interesting history of Baltic gold, which was once sought by Roman and Arab merchants.
