Although at the opening of the exhibition presenting this collection last August, it was already mentioned that some of the items could be transferred to the permanent collections of the Amber Museum in Kaliningrad, it was only last week that this actually happened. The museum has now added 40 new, unique exhibits with a total value of 100 million rubles. It was the owner of the gallery, Jewgienij Tatuzow, who had been thinking about transferring them for some time. „I wanted it to ‘live’ right here, where the master created it” Alexander Zhuravlov, ”who made an invaluable contribution to the reconstruction of the famous Amber Chamber in the Catherine Palace in Carsky Soli," he explained.
In Kaliningrad, there will remain several works by the tragically deceased master, mostly with patriotic themes. The most important of them is undoubtedly the panneau Ruthenia – the world’s largest amber mosaic painting measuring 2.76 x 1.56 m, weighing over 70 kg and consisting of 2,984 fragments. Aleksander Żurawlow worked on it for 11 months and completed it shortly before his death. What fascinates about them are the colorful compositions that are the result not only of choosing the appropriate varieties of amber, but also of the masterful mastery of the art of coloring stones.
A similar technique was used Portrait of Immanuel Kant – a German philosopher of the Enlightenment period who lived in this city, and an icon Archangel Gabriel.
Also, other artists whose works were donated by Yevgeny Tatuzov are strongly connected with Kaliningrad. One of them is Andriej Kawecki, whose amusing collection Orchestra It consists of 37 insects with instruments – all carved in Baltic amber. In this city, Natalia and Konstantin Domizdzkow also create – the authors of the clock Kukułka inspired by the old streets of Królewsko, as well as Jurij Łopatkin – the creator Old radio made of amber and kept in a retro style. The carafe and two glasses made of amber by Konstantina Buszmielewa are noteworthy; they are reminiscent of the practical dishes made from this stone in the 18th century – at that time it was believed that the magical powers of amber neutralized even the effects of strong poison. Meanwhile, his vase, the Olympus, which combines sculptural techniques with mosaics, is reminiscent of ancient Greece.
