The series of catalogues aimed at the youngest readers was launched last year with a publication dedicated to human and animal outer garments, „Suede and Silk, Fur and Feathers.” A second edition has recently appeared on the market, with the main theme being the subject of Kunstkammers, presented through the example of the collections at Friedenstein Castle. The descriptions are written in a child-friendly manner, and the illustrations transport them into a fairytale, Baroque world, when the „princes” living in the castle collected artistic items made of silver, ivory, gold, and amber. There were not only precious objects created by human hands, but also plants brought from distant lands, carefully shaped corals, meticulously crafted shell vessels, and the legendary unicorn horn.”
This catalogue showcases little-known treasures, tells the story of the origin of natural materials and their symbolism. It describes how specific objects found their way into Kunstkammer cabinets and the significance of Kunstkammer cabinets and cabinets of curiosities for the ruler. The book is richly illustrated with photographs and drawings that appeal to a child's imagination. The phenomenon of Baroque collecting will thus become understandable even to the youngest readers.
