Amber: time for change

221 exhibitors from 9 countries, including 82 from abroad, and more than 3,000 visitors from 47 countries – mainly from China, Germany, Latvia, Russia, Sweden, the USA, Great Britain and Hungary – are the statistics that say it all. And what do the exhibitors say?

„The market situation is changing, and although it is stable in our company, we are preparing to change our production line in order to better adapt to the needs of the European and American markets. We hope that we will be able to win back ‘old’ customers” – said Andrzej Gierszewski from Kolia Jarosław Lis. The profile of customers from Asia, especially from China, is also changing: at present, the design that is far from traditional pendants made of yellow amber in gold settings is becoming much more popular – based on high-quality stones in a modern European style.

More and more manufacturers are seeing their chances in the global market in raising the quality to the highest level and in modern design of amber jewelry. „Our goal is to create jewelry of the highest quality from the jewelry industry, which could confidently compete with well-known world brands. The short series that were announced in cooperation with designer Miron Kutbara were positively received by our customers at the AMBERMART trade show. With this greater motivation, we will prepare a complete collection for the AMBERIF 2018 trade show,” – announces Ryszard Węsierski from A2 Studio Biżuterii.

This year’s statistics are not significantly different from last year’s: the number of buyers from Poland has decreased, and the variety of countries from which people interested in amber come has increased significantly. „This is an important phenomenon, considering the fundamental changes currently taking place in the distribution of amber jewelry and the decline in interest in it in China. Perhaps this situation will help stabilize and balance the price of the raw material and help rebuild traditional export routes to EU countries and the United States,” summarized Ewa Rachoń, project director, at the trade show statistics.

The exhibitors explain this decline in the number of visitors from Poland by the term of the fair: unfortunate because the school year has just started and too early for summing up the holiday season, from which orders for the Christmas season depend. Andrzej Wiszniewski from Amber Planet sees another important reason: „The merchants from those countries and those shops to which suppliers of pressed amber and imitation amber are delivered are not coming. No wonder they are not interested in natural amber and jewelry made from it.”.

„We are seeing a decline in customers at Ambermart, which is reflected in the company’s turnover. However, year-over-year, we observe financial stability, and that is of the utmost importance to us. Many signals coming from the market indicate that this is not a temporary fluctuation. It is time for change,” says Andrzej Gierszewski from Kolia.
