The publication „Amber. Not Just by the Baltic” will be a collection of achievements by selected artists, jewellery makers and producers, as well as educational and museum institutions, with special merits in the field of design. It will not omit the names of individuals considered pioneers, authors of innovative ideas, or masters of goldsmithing, who have left a lasting mark on the history of Polish amber craftsmanship. We will get to know the profiles of the creators and their „thinking about amber”. We will learn where their passion came from. And we will understand why amber is referred to as a magical stone.
The backdrop for contemporary times will be a presentation of amber craftsmanship traditions in central and southern Poland. It will encompass Neolithic workshops, as well as historically closer topics such as the traditions of searching for and exploiting amber in Kurpie and the Narew river basin, and a description of amber collections in the museums of Warsaw, Krakow, Poznan, and Gliwice.
The project is being produced under the editorship of Prof. Barbara Kosmowska-Ceranowicz and Wanda Gontarska. Authors and photographers working daily in the media, museums, and art galleries have been invited to collaborate on its realisation.
After its presentation at the Gold Silver Time trade fair from 5th-7th October, the exhibition will move to the Museum of the Earth of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Warsaw, where it can be viewed until May 2013.
