Seven fashion designers embarked on a week-long adventure with amber in Gdańsk – the secrets of its history and processing will then be used in their commercial projects, which will be sold at a special auction.
This is the brief presentation of the latest amber promotion project created by the Gdańsk City Office. „We invited creators who are not directly connected with Gdańsk, but whose projects have a certain atmosphere of this city. A city that, due to its location, traditions and the people who live here, is simply characteristic. Freedom and the freedom to create – these are values that are inextricably linked with Gdańsk. That is why we love creators who are free. We hope that the designers will be inspired by the local atmosphere and, above all, by amber, and that they will feel at home here and fall in love with this city,” says Ewa Salamon from the Gdańsk City Office.
Designers of fashion and accessories such as ZUO. Corp., Beata Sadowska, Bezaprojekt, Agnieszka Maciejak and Solo Femme were invited to participate in the project. During the week, workshops will be held, during which they will delve into the basic techniques of amber processing and learn about its history, including by viewing exhibitions at the Amber Museum. Why all this? „To learn about amber and its truly unlimited decorative possibilities, which can be successfully used not only in jewelry but also in many other fields of design. The first days of the workshops already show that this was a good idea: it is enough to know about amber to be fascinated by it” – Robert Pytlos, coordinator for amber in Gdańsk, does not hide his satisfaction with the results so far.
„We like to discover amber because it is three-dimensional and its true beauty lies within. It gives aesthetic possibilities that humans have not yet discovered. We are interested in the way it is processed – the material has shown us that it has many possibilities; you just have to approach it intimately. Amber is unpredictable – it can hold amazing surprises; you have to ‘peek’ into it to fall in love with it” – confirm Bartek Michalec and Łukasz Laskowski from ZUO Corp.
The effects of these Gdańsk and amber-inspired designs will most likely be seen in June: the workshop participants will create projects using amber – clothing, bags, shoes, and other utilitarian items that will be presented and auctioned off in a special auction in Warsaw.
