Baltic amber at the Venice Art Biennale

Already on Wednesday 29 May, the exhibition „BALTIC AMBER - Legacy & Modernity” will open in Venice - as an accompanying event to the Art Biennale - featuring selected natural amber specimens and jewellery decorated with it by the best Polish artists.

Following on from the success of the exhibition „Baltic amber - tradition and innovation”.”, presented in 2015-2018 consecutively: at the EXPO World Exhibition in Milan, at the European Solidarity Centre in Gdansk, at the Inhorgenta fair in Munich, twice in Brussels - at the Tour & Taxis exhibition centre and at the European Parliament, and again in Gdansk - at the Palowa Gallery, this time we propose its new edition under the name „BALTIC AMBER - Legacy & Modernity” („BALTIC AMBER - Legacy & Modernity”). The exhibition will be inaugurated at the Spazio SV gallery in the heart of Venice, near San Marco already on 29 May 2019 and will be part of the programme accompanying the Venice Art Biennale - the most renowned exhibition of contemporary art in the world. 

The exhibition formula includes an educational section on Baltic amber, structured into seven separate stories conveyed through carefully selected exhibits:

  • „Knowledge of amber” presents natural amber specimens and inclusions
  • „Quotations of Nature” includes jewellery with natural forms, with minimal interference with the stone structure
  • „Exclusive craftsmanship” highlights the connection between the work of contemporary artists and craft traditions dating back to the 16th/17th centuries
  • „Contemporary Art” presents an international selection of works by renowned gold artists
  • „Innovative design” is the best example of Tricity companies that rely on design in their development strategies
  • „Fashion for Amber” presents amber haute couture
  • „Gdansk - World Amber Capital” is a selection of diplomatic gifts that Gdansk presents to VIPs visiting the city. 

The artistic part of the exhibition will consist of a selection of around 80 objects by renowned jewellery designers, design studios and Tricity companies that focus their attention on Baltic amber. Participants in the exhibition include: Marcin Zaremski, Jacek Byczewski, Jaroslaw Westermark, Paweł Kaczyński, Marcin Tymiński, Arek Wolski, Slawomir Fijałkowski, Sara Gackowska, Emilia Kohut, Sława Tchórzewska, Radek Szwed, Jolanta and Andrzej Kupniewski, Marcin Gronkowski, Ramon Puig Cuyas, Robert Bains, Christiane Foerster, Gisbert Stach, Fabrizio Tridenti, as well as, inter alia: S&A SA., Art7, Ireneusz Glaza, NAC AmberDorota Cenecka, Jacek Ostrowski, Danka Czapnik, Marek Mikicki, Mariusz Gliwinski, Aleksander Gliwinski.

After the premiere of the exhibition „BALTIC AMBER - Legacy & Modernity” in Venice, further launches are planned: in Gdansk (July-October 2019) and Munich (March 2020).
