Over 200 selected objects created between 2011 and 2020 by renowned designers and artists, including Marta Hryc, Emilia Kohut, Alina Filimoniuk, Małgorzata Szewczyk, Monika Reptowska, Marta Fliszykowska and Sara Gackowska, are presented at the exhibition. Their professional activity and ongoing interest in Baltic amber began with participation in the Trend Book project – a publication focusing on forecasting stylistic trends that would shape the direction of evolution of the creative industries in the coming season – and an exhibition presenting original works inspired by them, created by leading Polish designers and design students.
„After ten years of systematic development, the Trend Book has grown into an advanced research and implementation project. In 2020, it involved as many as 58 people, including students and graduates of design programmes from several art universities, as well as leading Polish designers, Tri-City amber companies and bespoke jewellery studios. Over this time, more than 600 experimental prototypes have been created – ranging from perfect craftsmanship to advanced parametric CAD/CAM, and from production-ready designs to haute joaillerie objects,” summarised Prof. Sławomir Fijałkowski, a lecturer at the Academy of Fine Arts in Gdańsk who leads the project.
There is no prominent amber company in the Tri-City today that does not use the services of professional designers – most of them are graduates of the Academy of Fine Arts in Gdańsk, for whom the Trend Book has become the first laboratory for design experiments, creative experiences and premiere original collections. It is not without reason that the Tri-City is today the centre of modern amber design, and Gdańsk itself the World Amber Capital.
