With a heart for stone. Jewellery by Jarosław Kollec

In a world where jewellery is often an accessory to an outfit or a status symbol, Jarosław Kolec creates works that have a completely different purpose - they tell stories written in stone. His exhibition „With a heart for stone”, presented as part of the Legnica SREBRO 2025 Festival, is a collection of jewellery stories in which the main role is not played by metal, but by the raw material - stone - with all its natural beauty and mystery.

The way in which his jewellery and jewellery objects are created is very simple: to achieve maximum effect using as few elements and means of expression as possible. “Less is not possible - and what is created presents the characteristics of the material from which it was created,” says the artist, who has been faithful to the principle of simplicity and respect for nature for years. Inspired by the harmony of nature, Kolec creates objects that are minimalist in form but rich in meaning and optical effects. The stones he chooses are unique - they attract his attention through inclusions, drawing, colour or the way they refract light.

At the centre of his work is a rock crystal - a stone full of transparency and surprises. Light is reflected inside it, creating reflections and blips, sometimes even a rainbow effect. In addition to crystal, the artist uses striped flint, chocolate flint and amber, giving each of them an individual voice in the jewellery composition. The metal - usually silver - has a subservient function here: it complements and emphasises what is most important.

Jarosław Kolc's creative process is a path from intuition to precision: „see - feel - design - make - present”. The project is not closed - it changes as new material characteristics are discovered. The stone guides the artist, not the other way around. „I try to get along with the raw material - as I meet its requirements, it will meet my expectations”.

Spike not only creates, but also explores gemmology, myths and ancient beliefs. He is fascinated by how stones have stirred the human imagination for centuries. Among other things, he has been fascinated by the Persian legend that says stones are the creation of the devil, who, envious of Eve's admiration for the flowers in paradise, gave them durability and colours to arouse desire in the hearts of humans. This symbolic view gives his works depth - they are not just utilitarian objects, but carriers of meaning.

The exhibition „With a heart for stone”, which presents works made of rock crystal, striped flint, chocolate flint and amber and silver, is an expression of artistic dialogue with nature, attentiveness and tenderness towards the raw material. This is jewellery that doesn't need much to enthral - all it takes is a look from the heart.
