Due to the pandemic and China's zero-tolerance policy, the Jewellery & GEM WORLD 2022 trade fair, traditionally held in Hong Kong, was moved to Singapore. It was attended by 5 companies offering Baltic amber products – Amber Apple, Gem Amber, Gielo, Silvam, and the local company Baltica Pte Ltd, as well as the International Amber Association. As China is one of the most important exhibition markets for the industry, expectations regarding Asian clients were correspondingly high.
To properly stimulate them, the PAIH Foreign Trade Office operating in Singapore and the Polish Embassy ensured that local business and media representatives got to know Baltic Gold better. To this end, a meeting was organised under the banner „Jewellery from Poland. Amber - the treasure of the Baltic”, which brought together representatives of the Singaporean lifestyle press and fashion industry, representatives of the local jewellery industry and members of jewellery organisations, as well as the banking and financial sector.
During her opening speech, Ambassador Magdalena Bogdziewicz emphasised the authenticity, aesthetics and investment value of Polish amber, which is frequently combined with silver or gold.
Alongside a creative and distinctive design, it is the high quality of craftsmanship in Polish jewellery – the result of a tradition passed down from generation to generation – that attracts the most sophisticated clients in the world, including in Asia, she noted.
A solid dose of knowledge about amber was provided by representatives of the International Amber Association, Aleksandra Harasiuk and Małgorzata Siudak, as well as a film prepared by the Gdańsk International Fair about the history of amber, contemporary jewellery manufacturing based on centuries-old traditions, and the role of the Amberif fair in promoting it worldwide.
We were asked, among other things, about the classification of amber and how it is used for research conducted by scientists in our laboratory, but also about the objects in which amber was most frequently found in past centuries and where it is used today. The mention of the box-office Hollywood hit „Jurassic Park” aroused the most excitement, especially since each of the guests was presented with a piece containing an inclusion. The International Amber Association (MSB) made sure they were described and examined in the MSB laboratory, so the guests received a unique souvenir of the meeting – reported Aleksandra Harasiuk, Director of the MSB Office.
The evening was graced by a showcase of Polish amber jewellery presented by models in outfits by the local brand AKINN, which became an illustration of international fashion collaboration.
