Amber reborn: mastery of form and courage of interpretation

Contemporary jewellery is increasingly and boldly breaking the boundaries of tradition – and amber is becoming a surprising, open, and remarkably current material within it. AMBERIF Selection shows that in the hands of the best designers, classic craftsmanship meets modern thinking, resulting in forms that not only adorn but retell stories.

AMBERIF Selection is a competition that has consistently set the direction of development for contemporary jewellery for years – jewellery that not only captivates with its form but also redefines the way we think about materials. Since 1995, accompanying the AMBERIF trade fair without interruption, it has remained a space for bold, polished projects that consciously engage with both tradition and modernity.

The focus here is on mastery – in both design and execution. The jury, comprising Andrzej Szadkowski, Marcin Wesołowski, and Grzegorz Mańkowski, recognised works that showcase amber in a new light – as a material open to experimentation, dialogue with other materials, and contemporary aesthetic sensibility. The awarded projects clearly emphasise that amber is no longer just a carrier of tradition, but a dynamic design medium.

Mastery of craftsmanship and design strength

The Grand Prix of the Minister of Economy and Finance in the amber jewellery category for A2 Jewellery Ryszard Węsierski for the „On the Beach” ring is an example of a light, almost intuitive interpretation of nature – capturing a fleeting moment and translating it into a modern language of form.

In turn, the highlighted projects by the T² team and Marcin Tymiński show how amber perfectly fits when combined with other materials – such as silver or polymer – creating distinctive, contemporary compositions.

The attention to craftsmanship is equally evident in the category of gold and silver jewellery. The „For Elise” medallion – entirely handcrafted, perfected in every detail in the A2 Ryszard Węsierski studio – confirms that the highest quality of craftsmanship remains the foundation of even the most modern creations. This work was honoured with the Grand Prix of the President of Międzynarodowe Targi Gdańskie S.A.

Innovation rooted in tradition

AMBERIF Selection once again proves that true innovation is born at the intersection of: traditional techniques, design courage, and a fresh perspective on the material. It is there that amber reveals its new faces – surprising, modern, and fully integrated into the language of today's jewellery.
