As is tradition, the competition will be held in two categories: juniors (theme: Spring amber smile) and seniors (Euro 2012 and Nature – the beauty of amber). Submissions must be sent by 9th March 2012. They will be judged by a competition jury, which will include representatives from industry organisations: the Goldsmiths and Jewellers Industry Commission, the International Amber Association, the National Amber Chamber of Commerce, the Guild of Art Craftsmen, and the Association of Jewellery Appraisers. The competition results will be announced during the Amber, Jewellery and Gemstones International Fair Amberif 2012 (21-24 March). The organisers have prepared prizes and diplomas funded by sponsors for the winners and participants of the competition.
The aim of the competition is to showcase the professional skills of goldsmiths and jewellers, specialising in traditional and modern goldsmithing techniques, as well as young apprentices in these trades. Statistics for 2010/2011 show that 90 students were training as goldsmiths-jewellers in Poland, of whom 65 come from Gdańsk and the surrounding area. Among the winners are pupils from the „Pomeranian Craft Schools” – a pioneering venture created primarily thanks to the commitment of the Mayor of Gdańsk, Paweł Adamowicz. Due to the significance of the competition, it contributes to the popularisation of Gdańsk's amber tradition.
The Amber Portal amber.com.pl is sponsoring the competition.
