The exhibition is a portable, modern display presenting, across more than 100 photographs, the collections of the Amber Museum in Gdańsk as well as jewellery and natural amber specimens from the collections of Gdańsk amber artisans, including colour varieties, natural forms, lumps, inclusions, archaeological objects and those dating from the 19th and 20th centuries, as well as folk art and works by renowned masters of contemporary amber art: Mariusz Drapikowski, Lucjan Myrta and Bogdan Mirowski. Also photographed were contemporary amber gifts and awards, utility objects and jewellery by Gdańsk creators, and jewellery by Polish and foreign artists.
The exhibition is complemented by multimedia educational stations, thanks to which one can take a virtual tour of the Gdańsk museum and presentations of shows from Amberif 2010 Fashion and Amber Gala.
As part of the exhibition, visitors can also admire the „Our Amber” display organised by the Association of Goldsmithing Form Creators. The works by members of this organisation on show demonstrate „everyday, normal thinking about amber”. It was first presented at the Contemporary Theatre in Warsaw in December 2008, and has also been seen by residents of Bremen, Legnica, Gdańsk and Kalisz. The works were also exhibited during the Inhorgenta Europe trade fair in Munich.
So far the exhibition „Gdansk – the World Capital of Amber” watched by several tens of thousands of residents of Bremen and Kalisz as well as participants in the Congress of the Association of European Senates, which took place in October 2009 in Gdańsk. The next planned stops for this exhibition are the Nice Opera, the Espace Albert Camus in Bron/Lyon and the Senate of the Republic of Poland in Warsaw.
The exhibition is organised by the Association of Polish Maritime Cities and Municipalities, the Mayor’s Office for City Promotion of the Gdańsk City Hall, the Amber Museum (a branch of the Gdańsk Museum), and the Polish National Amber Chamber of Commerce.
