The annual report of PIG shows that the geological balance resources at the end of 2016 did not change compared to the previous year and amounted to 1,138.95 tons of amber in 8 documented deposits: Górka Lubartowska – 1088 tons, Możdżanowo – 10 tons, Przeróbka-SL – 17.05 tons (industrial: 16.78 tons), Smołdzino – 0.6 tons, Stegna – 1.4 tons, Sztutowo-p.1 – 10.3 tons, Sztutowo-p.2 – 8.9 tons, Wiślinka 1 – 2.7 tons.
Last year, during the exploration works, 1842 kg of amber was extracted, including: 38.5 kg in the West Pomeranian Voivodeship, 1730 kg in the Pomeranian Voivodeship and 73.5 kg in the Lublin Voivodeship. Interest in the extraction of the mineral is growing – in the Pomeranian Voivodeship alone, 31 new geological exploration projects for the search and identification of amber deposits have been approved, while in the West Pomeranian Voivodeship – 2. The concession for the extraction of amber ore remains unchanged: it is granted to the Baltex Minerały company and concerns the Przeróbka-SL deposit. In 2016, there was no exploitation there (the amber is extracted in conjunction with the extraction of sandstones, for which there was no demand last year). A small part of the amber found in commercial circulation comes from beach collecting – PIG estimates that this is about 5-6 tons.
In 2016, nearly 7.5 thousand kg of amber was seized at border crossings, which represents a fourfold increase compared to the previous year. The seized amber was auctioned – in 2016 the Customs Chamber sold just under 1300 kg of raw material (due to extended procedures, this was most likely mainly raw material from 2015).
