The first series of *Złoto Bałtyku*, which has been broadcast since April 2019, met with a mixed reception. Viewers were delighted – hence the decision by media company A+E Networks to continue with the programme. According to reports, each of the programme’s five episodes was watched by an average of over 90,000 viewers in the 4+ demographic and 46,000 in the 16–49 commercial demographic. What’s more, the series boosted the channel’s audience by 309% compared to the channel’s average prime-time figures in April and secured HISTORY the 4th position amongst cable and satellite channels in the prime-time slot. It seems that the „amber fever” was a huge hit… The series met with slightly less enthusiasm amongst amber traders themselves, who criticised it, amongst other things, for placing too much emphasis on sensationalism, for instance by quoting inflated prices for raw amber and finished products, which could have had a negative impact not only on sales but also on the image of the amber industry. An undeniable and huge advantage, however, was that it introduced viewers to issues related to the extraction and artistic processing of raw amber.
The second season is to be free of these „image shortcomings”. „After the first season, we all drew many conclusions and made every effort not to make the same mistakes and avoid image blunders. There will certainly be less sensationalism and more interesting promotion of amber – I am sure that the entire amber industry will benefit from this,” she announces. Dorota Cenecka, which will also appear in the second season. This time, viewers will be able to, among other things, follow how a copy of the chain for the Mayor of Gdańsk, Aleksandra Dulkiewicz (which can be seen at the Amber Museum in Gdańsk), is created in her workshop, and they will get to know the creator of its carved elements Przemysława Kusia, will be able to visit their shared an exhibition at the Uphagen House and participate in a professional jewellery and fashion show that took place during Ambermart 2019 International Amber Fair.

The cast of the film has been joined by, among others, Jarosław Niedzielski, owner of the Prestige galleries in Gdańsk, which offer high-quality modern amber jewellery, and Marta Włodarska, a jewellery designer specialising in combining amber with wood. „On the film set, for the first time in my life, I participated in night-time amber fishing on the Baltic Sea, which was an absolutely fascinating experience for me. The film also features scenes where I explored the secrets of techniques for gluing and polishing large panels made of glued amber cubes, which were previously unknown to me. Tomasz Ołdziejewski introduced me to them. His knowledge and tricks regarding the special processing of amber mosaics helped me in creating a larger amber and wood form, which is intended to be a lamp. Many scenes were filmed in my studio and gallery in Berlin, but unfortunately, they were not used for the film,” she explained. Marta Włodarska.
Season two will also continue to explore the highly engaging storylines of amber prospecting on plots near Gdańsk (with a criminal element, as those with a penchant for other people's property will appear), amber fishing by a trawler crew (apparently, there's sometimes more amber than fish), and artisanal production (will the largest model of the Titanic ever made from amber make it into the Guinness Book of Records?).
We have another 5 gripping episodes of the amber series ahead of us – a veritable goldmine of knowledge on amber fishing, extraction, and processing, as well as the production and sale of finished products. It's an effective way to infect more fans of Baltic gold with amber fever.
„Baltic Gold” season 2.
