Its need is particularly evident when one walks through the streets of Gdańsk and observes the abundance of amber products that have nothing to do with design or contemporary jewellery thinking. In itself, this is not really reprehensible; the problem is that the balance between commerce and creativity is not maintained. That is precisely why it is so important to encourage designers and artists to use amber and develop new ideas with it as the main element.
Among the competition entries were very sensitive, very beautiful works that demonstrated undeniable abilities. I very much regret that some of them told us little about the concept or the choice of materials – sometimes these factors are precisely what prove crucial in the interpretation process, and unfortunately, it's not always possible to infer this information from a photograph.
