The founding act of the World Amber Council was signed on 28 June 2006 at the Uphagen House in Gda\u0144sk, in the presence of the Mayor of Gda\u0144sk, Pawe\u0142 Adamowicz. On the same day, the Amber Museum (as a branch of the Historical Museum of Gda\u0144sk, now the Gda\u0144sk Museum) was also opened. In this way, the municipal project \u201eGda\u0144sk \u2013 World Amber Capital\u201d was launched. To commemorate the events of that day, the World Amber Council established 28 June as World Amber Day and announced that on this day we would celebrate the 44th wedding anniversary as Amber Wedding.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Specialists from various fields of science, art, and economy are appointed to the World Amber Council to ensure a comprehensive assessment of the actions undertaken by the city of Gda\u0144sk. They deal with issues related to the broadly understood trade of amber raw material and amber jewellery worldwide, and promote its natural beauty and properties. Its tasks include, among others, issuing opinions on draft changes facilitating the development of amber production \u2013 a branch of the economy particularly developed in the area of Gda\u0144sk, issuing opinions on the development strategy of the \u201eGda\u0144sk \u2013 World Amber Capital\u201d programme, and scientific, cultural, educational, and economic activities concerning amber.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
